HYLTON TANNENBAUM
Executive Producer / Writer / Director
Hylton began shooting films when he was 10 years old, using his Dad’s Super 8mm film camera (which as you can see in the pic, he still has) and casting his family, friends and pets in his movies.
After graduating from the University of Witwatersrand with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and then graduating cum laude from the AAA School of Advertising with a Post Graduate diploma in Marketing & Advertising, he realised his lifelong dream of studying filmmaking at The London Film School in Covent Garden, where he graduated with a Post Graduate Diploma in the Art & Technique of Filmmaking. While at film school Hylton won the prestigious Kodak Student Film Award in 1995 for best student commercial, launching his career as a film director.
Hylton went on to work as a director at Unity Pictures in London and at Peter Gird Productions in Cape Town before founding Bioscope Films in 2005, a production company that has gone on to become one of South Africa’s largest and most awarded film production companies.
Hylton has directed over 250 commercials, shooting for almost every South African ad agency and many international ones too. His work has won numerous awards over the years, most recently his CANSA Testi-monial’s campaign won 2 Silver Cannes Lions, a Silver Clio, and 3 Golds, 2 Silvers and a Bronze at the 2016 Loeries.
BRETT MORRIS
Executive Producer / Writer / Director
Brett has been making up convincing stories on the fly since he was a young boy. He put this talent to good use when he discovered you could get paid to make up stories for a living. After 8 years in the advertising industry he was appointed Executive Creative Director of FCB Johannesburg, the largest advertising agency in South Africa. Under his leadership FCB has won more awards than ever before in its 90-year history, including South Africa’s first ever Cannes Grand Prix, One Show Best of Show and Best Foreign Film at One Screen.
He has been recognised numerous times at major award shows including Cannes, One Show, D&AD and Clios; and also has 3 AdReview Campaigns of the year and the Sunday Times Marketing Excellence Grand Prix to his credit and has been ranked as one of the top 5 creative directors in the country by his peers.
In 2014 Brett was appointed Group Chief Executive and has since been voted by his peers as most admired agency leader in Johannesburg for 5 years in a row. In 2016 FCB Africa won the Sunday Times Top Brands Agency of the Year for the third year in a row and at the Financial Mail AdFocus awards he was voted Industry Leader of the Year and FCB Joburg won Large Agency of the Year in 2017 for the fourth time during his tenure.
He is a published fiction, non-fiction and feature film script writer.
DANIEL KAPLAN
Executive Producer / Film Producer
Daniel has over 25 years’ experience in the commercials production industry. While studying, he freelanced as a PA at various production houses. Eventually being snapped up as a production manager by the legendary Velocity Films. He was thrown into the deep end of non stop productions for several award winning directors including Keith Rose. The call of adventure pulled Daniel to New York for an extended period and London thereafter, where he moved up the production ranks, and eventually started producing.
After 3 years in London he returned to Cape Town for a manic season of service work on several large productions followed by a 2 year stint in Australia where he produced for several well known directors including Les Sharpe. After 7 years away from home he was lured back by an offer to help run an exciting stable of several young directors who were storming the SA market.
He then met a director who would become his long time collaborator, Hylton Tannenbaum, together they formed Bioscope Films in 2005. They have built Bioscope Films into becoming one of the most well respected & award winning production companies in the country, with an exciting roster of diverse directors, who shoot for ad agencies from all over the world.
With a strong established reputation as an industry leader Daniel has spent several years on the EXCO of The Commercial Producers Association of South Africa.
